Breast Augmentation — FAQs

By: Our Team

3/3/2021

Breast augmentation continues to be the most popular plastic surgery women request. With the innovative techniques I use, including non-narcotic recovery, it’s never been easier to have the silhouette you want.

For many women, this means larger breasts, but that isn’t always the case. Breast enhancement surgery can also correct asymmetry, as well as lift sagging breasts for a more youthful look, and restore breasts to their pre-pregnancy fullness is often part of a mommy makeover. I have patients who want augmentation using smaller-size implants or fat transfer to give them a nice athletic profile. That’s why we have so many surgical options, as well as sizes, shapes, and types of implants available, and I use varying incision techniques and implant placements for a truly customized outcome.

Here is some information you should know before making your decision:

What is the perfect breast augmentation?

You probably have something in mind of what is ideal for you. Just consider your perfect “fit” should give you a flattering breast size and shape, perky or lifted breasts, and attractive cleavage. Everything should be proportionate to your body frame. We use Vectra 3D to help you “see” yourself before surgery as an excellent visual tool in determining the size and shape that best suits your body and your self-image.

Which breast enhancement approach is best?

Best is a personal choice. Each of the three options has its own advantages:

  • Gummy Bear Silicone implants are filled with a thick cohesive gel that is highly durable and has a low rupture rate. The cohesive gel gives structure to the implant, and its various levels of cohesivity allow for fine-tuning appearance and behavior beyond just volume and projection. They have a soft, natural feel. Another advantage is that gummy bear implants have a much lower rate of rippling compared to older devices.
  • Saline implants are inserted empty and then filled with saline solution. Because of this, the incision site is usually smaller and less noticeable. Sometimes, implant folds may cause “rippling” under the skin and, therefore, not a good choice for women with thin chest skin.
  • Fat Transfer uses liposuction where I take fat from another part of your body and inject it into your breasts. This option is a great one for patients seeking a small increase in breast size or wanting to restore or correct symmetry.

Will breasts feel different?

Gummy bear silicone implants and fat transfer will feel more natural than saline ones. Bigger implants may feel “tight” in your chest. Working together, we will determine the right size, shape and type of enhancement to give you the most natural feel possible.

How do before and after photos help in deciding on a surgeon?

Most plastic surgeons have photos on their websites to showcase their work. I invite you to check out my before and after photo gallery showing some of the patients who have trusted me to perform their breast augmentation surgery. Do you see any patient photos that look similar to you—age, body type, etc.? We hope this gives you a good idea of what I can accomplish for you as well.
