Blepharoplasty in Chicago, IL

If you ask people which feature of theirs is the most appealing, many will tell you that it's their eyes. However, some individuals struggle with sagging skin above or around the eyes, which can produce a tired, angry, or overall unflattering look. At Iteld Plastic Surgery, Dr. Lawrence Iteld specializes in eyelid surgery (also known as blepharoplasty) to lift and tighten the lower or upper eyelids, creating a more "alert" look. Whether it's performed on the upper or lower lids, blepharoplasty creates a fresh, youthful appearance and can produce subtle yet noticeable improvements. If you are interested in refreshing your eyes by removing excess skin, schedule a consultation with Dr. Iteld at our office in Chicago, IL.

Blepharoplasty may be done on the upper eyelid alone, on the bottom portion, or a combination of both upper and lower.

  • Upper
Upper blepharoplasty assists in removing sagging skin to create a more awakened and appealing look while also removing any obstacles to your vision. An incision is usually made along the lid crease to remove loose skin and fatty tissue.
  • Lower
Lower eyelid surgery is performed to reduce puffy and bulging skin beneath the lower lid. In most cases, an incision is placed along the lash line to allow access to remove fatty tissue, and the skin is subtly lifted to create a flatter, smoother look.

At Iteld Plastic Surgery, we're proud to perform eyelid surgery using non-narcotic medications to keep you comfortable during and after your procedure without the risks that come with opioids. As a result, most patients are able to get by after their surgery with over-the-counter pain relievers.

A customized eyelid lift at our Chicago, IL office can provide both functional and aesthetic improvements with benefits that include:

  • Improving vision by removing obstacles to sight
  • Diminishing lumps in the lower lids
  • Reducing sagging and/or hanging skin in the upper and lower eyelids
  • Creating a more awakened, aware look
  • Boosting comfort by eliminating friction from skin creases
  • Amplifying the contour and look of the eyes
  • Attaining a more youthful, rejuvenated look

3 weeks out breast lift w/ implant - I had a fabulous experience with Dr. Iteld and his professional team. From start to finish, it was seamless. From the moment I walked into the beautiful office and was greeted by the pleasant receptionist, I felt at ease. Dr Iteld explained everything to me in great detail. Linda, who fitted me with the implant was very professional and gave me good advice. I chose to go with a very small implant because I was not looking to gain volume as I started as a D cup with mild sagging from nursing two children. He explained that I would lose some volume and so that's why I went with a 170 cc implant. Everything was seamless. I had a great experience with everyone I came into contact with at his office and the surgeon center was very professional. I did not need any narcotics not even Tylenol. I had virtually no pain after the surgery. I'm only three weeks out and the results are extraordinary. Very mild scarring and they are exactly how I how I hoped they would be!! Also, if you're looking for any rejuvenation treatments, Kimmy was awesome! I had some red capillaries removed off my eyelids and EZ gel for hollowing under my eyes. She knows her stuff!! I'm so impressed!!

How much does eyelid surgery cost?

The cost of blepharoplasty depends on several factors, including whether you're having upper eyelid surgery, lower eyelid surgery, or both. Additional procedures, the complexity of your surgery, and anesthesia requirements can also affect the total cost. During your consultation,

Dr. Iteld will discuss your goals, recommend the most appropriate treatment plan, and provide a detailed quote with no surprises.

Is eyelid surgery covered by insurance?

Blepharoplasty performed to improve appearance is considered a cosmetic procedure and is generally not covered by insurance. However, if excess upper eyelid skin significantly obstructs your vision, your insurance company may cover part or all of the procedure. In these cases, visual field testing and other documentation are often required. Our team can help determine whether you may qualify and guide you through the insurance process.

Am I a good candidate for blepharoplasty?

You may be a good candidate if your upper eyelids appear heavy or droopy, you have puffiness or bags beneath your eyes, or your eyes make you look tired even when you're well rested. Good candidates are generally in good overall health, don't smoke, and have realistic expectations about what surgery can achieve. During your consultation, Dr. Iteld will determine whether eyelid surgery—or another treatment—is the best way to achieve your goals.

Will eyelid surgery make me look different?

The goal of blepharoplasty isn't to change your appearance; it's to help you look more refreshed and rested while preserving your natural facial features. Dr. Iteld carefully removes or repositions excess skin and fat to create a youthful, natural-looking result without making your eyes look overdone or altering their natural shape.

What is recovery like after eyelid surgery?

Most patients experience swelling and bruising for the first week or two, with many returning to work and normal daily activities within 7 to 10 days. More strenuous exercise is typically resumed after several weeks, depending on your recovery. Dr. Iteld's Smart Recovery protocol is designed to minimize discomfort, reduce downtime, and help you heal as comfortably and efficiently as possible.

Will I have visible scars after blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty incisions are carefully placed in natural eyelid creases or, for many lower eyelid procedures, inside the eyelid where no external scar is visible. As healing progresses, any visible scars typically fade significantly and become very difficult to notice.

How long do the results of eyelid surgery last?

Blepharoplasty provides long-lasting improvement. Although the natural aging process continues, many patients enjoy the results of upper eyelid surgery for 10 to 15 years or longer, while improvements from lower eyelid surgery are often even longer lasting. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle and protecting your skin from sun damage can help prolong your results.

Can blepharoplasty be combined with other facial rejuvenation procedures?

Combining procedures can often address multiple signs of aging at once while allowing you to recover during a single healing period. Many patients choose to combine eyelid surgery with procedures such as a brow lift, facelift, and fat grafting to achieve more comprehensive facial rejuvenation.
