Face It! Surgical Procedures to Enhance Your Facial Aesthetics
9/20/2024
Our patients’ pursuit of more youthful appearances continues to drive advancements in facial surgical procedures. That’s why it’s so important for you to understand the benefits, risks, and differences between aesthetic procedures so you can make an informed decision about what suits your needs best. Read on about each facial aesthetic surgical procedure:
Facelift
A facelift (Rhytidectomy) is a comprehensive surgical procedure aimed at reducing the signs of aging by tightening the skin and underlying tissues. It addresses sagging skin, deep creases, and loss of muscle tone in the face. I most often include a neck lift with it for a completely refreshed look. Most patients who had benefited from nonsurgical treatments but are no longer getting the results they want, are turning to facelifts for more comprehensive results. This procedure provides long-lasting results but also requires a longer recovery period.
Neck Lift
A neck lift’s (Lower Rhytidectomy) purpose is to improve the appearance of the neck and jawline. It addresses issues such as sagging skin, excess fat, and muscle banding, providing a smoother, more youthful contour. When I perform this procedure, it typically involves removing excess skin, tightening underlying muscles, and sometimes liposuction to remove unwanted fat deposits. For some patients, this can be a stand-alone procedure, while for others, I perform it with a facelift.
Recovery time varies, but most patients can return to normal activities within a few weeks. A neck lift can significantly enhance one’s appearance, boosting confidence and creating a more rejuvenated look.
Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid surgery, medically known as Blepharoplasty, targets drooping eyelids and under-eye bags. Depending on the patient’s specific needs, I perform this procedure on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. It rejuvenates the eye area, making you look more alert and youthful. Recovery is relatively quick, with most patients returning to normal activities within two weeks.
Brow Lift
A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, raises the eyebrows and smooths forehead wrinkles. It creates a more youthful and refreshed appearance. I use several different techniques for brow lifts, including endoscopic and traditional methods, each with varying recovery times.
Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty, commonly called a nose job, reshapes the nose for aesthetic or functional purposes. It can correct deformities, improve breathing, and enhance facial harmony. I use several surgical approaches — open, closed, and tipplasty — which we discuss during presurgical consultation. The results are permanent, but the recovery can take several weeks, with swelling and bruising being common during the initial stages.
Lip Lift
A lip lift enhances the appearance of the upper lip by reducing the distance between the nose and the upper lip. I achieve this by surgically removing a small strip of skin just below the nose, which results in a more pronounced, youthful lip shape and can enhance the overall balance of facial features. It’s an ideal procedure for individuals seeking to improve lip definition and show more of the upper teeth when smiling. It’s appropriate for certain patients who enjoy long-lasting results with minimal downtime.
Fat Transfer
Fat transfer to the face involves my harvesting fat from other parts of the body, such as the abdomen or thighs, and injecting it into the face. This technique restores volume, smooths out wrinkles, and enhances facial contours, providing a more youthful and balanced appearance. Because the fat is autologous (taken from the patient’s own body), there is a reduced risk of allergic reactions or rejection. The results are natural-looking and can be long-lasting, making fat transfer a popular choice for facial rejuvenation.
