Picofy vs. Morpheus8 Burst: Which Treatment Is Right for You and Why?
11/17/2026
Patients often ask me which is “better.” But when it comes to Picofy and Morpheus8 Burst, that’s not really the right question. These treatments use very different technologies and address different concerns.
The better question is: What are we trying to improve? Once we answer that, we can choose the treatment that best addresses your concerns
Pigment? Think Picofy
I consider Picofy when the primary concerns include:
- Sunspots and freckles
- Melasma and uneven pigmentation
- Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
- Overall uneven skin tone
- Tattoo removal
- Certain wrinkles and acne scars
Picofy delivers extremely short pulses of laser energy measured in picoseconds, or trillionths of a second. This laser is designed to target pigment very precisely and improve skin clarity while limiting unnecessary thermal impact on the surrounding tissue.
Rather than relying primarily on heat, Picofy uses extremely rapid energy delivery to break pigment into smaller particles that the body can gradually clear. The technology can also be used to improve wrinkles and acne scars.
For many patients, the result is skin that looks clearer, brighter and more even without the recovery associated with more aggressive resurfacing procedures. If discoloration is what you notice first when you look in the mirror, Picofy is often where I start.
Remodeling and Tightening? Think Morpheus8 Burst
I consider Morpheus8 Burst when the primary concerns include:
- Skin laxity
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Uneven texture
- Acne scarring
- Enlarged pores
- Areas that would benefit from deeper tissue remodeling
- Early changes in facial or body contours
Morpheus8 Burst combines microneedling with fractional radiofrequency (RF) energy. The Burst technology allows us to deliver RF energy at multiple tissue depths within a single pulse, giving us greater control over how we address the dermis and deeper tissue.
The controlled micro-injuries created by the needles and the RF energy delivered below the skin work together to stimulate a remodeling response. Because the energy can be delivered at multiple depths, we can customize the treatment based on the area and what we’re trying to accomplish.
This makes Morpheus8 Burst particularly useful when the concern isn’t simply what’s happening on the skin, but changes occurring beneath it.
The best technology isn’t determined by what’s newest. It’s determined by what you’re trying to improve.
Where the Two Treatments Overlap
Both technologies can play a role in improving wrinkles, acne scars and overall skin quality. But they get there differently. Picofy uses picosecond laser energy, while Morpheus8 Burst uses fractional RF delivered through microneedles.
That difference matters because skin aging rarely involves just one issue. For some patients, using the technologies together or at different points in a treatment plan allows me to address concerns at multiple levels.
Which Treatment Is Right for You?
The answer starts with your skin, not the device.
- Picofy may be the better starting point if your biggest concern is brown spots, discoloration or uneven pigmentation, or want to remove a tattoo.
- Morpheus8 Burst may be the better choice if you’re primarily concerned about skin laxity, texture, acne scarring or deeper signs of aging.
- A combination of Picofy and Morpheus8 Burst may provide a more comprehensive approach if you have multiple concerns, such as pigmentation along with changes in texture and firmness.
