Revision Surgery: When and How to Improve a Previous Procedure
6/9/2026
Choosing plastic surgery is a conscious decision. When your results don’t feel right, or have changed over time, it can leave you questioning what to do next. Revision surgery offers a clear path forward. The goal isn’t simply to fix something, but to refine your results, restore balance, and help you feel more comfortable and confident in your body.
Why Patients Consider Revision Surgery
Patients often come to me for revision surgery because something about their results doesn’t feel or look right. In some cases, it’s a more significant issue. In others, it’s a smaller detail that hasn’t settled the way you expected.
You might be thinking about revision if:
- Your results look or feel unnatural
- Something feels uneven or out of balance
- Healing didn’t go as expected
- Scars are more visible, thicker, or draw attention
- Implants have shifted, hardened, or no longer feel right
- Your body or preferences have changed over time
For some patients, the concern is aesthetic; for others, it’s functional, and often it’s a combination of both. If you feel self-conscious about your previous surgical results, including visible scarring, it can affect more than how you look. This can influence how you dress, carry yourself, and feel about yourself day to day. Revision surgery is often about restoring that sense of ease.
The goal of revision surgery is to create balance, proportion, and a result that feels natural to you, not to chase perfection.
When Is the Right Time?
Timing matters. Your body needs time to fully heal and settle before I can accurately evaluate your results. In most cases, I recommend waiting about 6 to 12 months after surgery to allow swelling to resolve and tissues to stabilize. That said, if something feels structurally off or uncomfortable, it may make sense to address it sooner. During your consultation, I look closely at your anatomy, tissue quality, and how you’ve healed to determine the right timing and approach.
How Revision Surgery Is Different
Revision surgery is more complex than your primary procedure and requires a more tailored approach. I perform revision surgery for patients who had their original procedure with me, as well as patients who had surgery elsewhere and are looking to improve or refine their results.
There may be scar tissue, changes from your original surgery, or limits in skin elasticity that affect what we can achieve. Because of this, every revision plan is built around your anatomy, your healing, and your goals.
Depending on your needs, this may involve adjusting implants, reshaping tissue, or combining surgical and nonsurgical treatments to refine your results.
Improving Scars
Scarring is a common reason patients consider revision, and in many cases, it improves significantly with the right approach. When appropriate, I refine scar placement or reduce tension so scars heal more smoothly and blend naturally with your skin.
Keep in mind that not every scar needs surgery. I also use nonsurgical treatments, including Picofy laser and Morpheus8 RF microneedling, along with targeted skin remodeling approaches, to improve the appearance and quality of scars. Often, the most natural-looking results come from combining these approaches in a way that supports how your skin heals.
Setting Realistic Expectations
Every revision starts with understanding what’s bothering you most and creating a plan that makes sense.
My goal is to create better balance, a more natural look and feel, and results that align more closely with what you want. That starts with a clear conversation about what’s possible and what makes sense for you.
Recovery Matters
Recovery plays a critical role in your final result. With my Smart Recovery™ approach, I fo cus on minimizing discomfort, reducing swelling, and supporting healing without the use of narcotics. Most patients are surprised by how manageable recovery feels when it’s carefully planned. After all, you shouldn’t be worried about pain you won’t have.

Revision surgery is a more refined process. When done properly, it often helps patients feel more comfortable in their results. If you’re considering revision surgery, the first step is a conversation. I’ll evaluate your current results, understand your goals, and help you determine the best path forward.
