Rhinoplasty: Let’s talk about it!
10/13/2021
Are you unhappy with the size or shape of your nose? Do you have breathing issues caused by a deviated septum? If so, rhinoplasty, commonly called a nose job, may be right for you.
Proper age for having Rhinoplasty
Many teenagers choose to have their noses “fixed” to be more aesthetically pleasing. Since the nose is still growing and changing, you must reach facial maturity before changing the shape or size of your nose. For girls, this usually means 15 – 16 years of age; boys should wait until at least 17 or 18 for facial features to reach maturity. There is no limit to how old a patient can be to have a nose job as long as they are healthy to undergo surgery.
Types of Rhinoplasty
There are two types of rhinoplasty: surgical and nonsurgical nose jobs.
Surgical Rhinoplasty
I use two basic surgical techniques: open rhinoplasty and closed rhinoplasty. It’s important to remember that surgical rhinoplasty is permanent. It’s a great solution to balance your face so your nose is in proportion to the rest of your facial features, as well as restore or create facial symmetry. For patients considering surgical rhinoplasty, the best candidates are people who…
- have reached facial maturity
- are physically and mentally healthy
- have realistic expectations
- have time to heal
Nonsurgical Rhinoplasty
Nonsurgical rhinoplasty uses dermal fillers. In this case, the technique is temporary and would need to be repeated as the filler begins to dissolve. On the positive side, the procedure is in-office and takes less than an hour, results are immediate, and you have no downtime. It also allows you to decide whether you like the results or would prefer a different solution. Discover your Rhinoplasty Options You could like how you look!
