How Does Restylane Work?
Restylane injections are performed in one of our office's many private procedure rooms. Before starting, our injector may apply a numbing lotion to the treatment area to reduce any potential discomfort. We'll then administer the Restylane through a fine needle before massaging the skin to help distribute it evenly. Multiple injections will be needed, followed by a cold compress to reduce inflammation.

How long do Restylane treatments last?
The Restylane family of products is a brand of hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal fillers designed for natural-looking results. Results vary depending on the product, your individual body chemistry (your metabolism), and the amount of product used. But in general, you can expect Restylane to last six months in some areas, and 18–24 months in other areas.
What can you expect after Restylane injections?
Results can be seen almost immediately as the added volume begins to smooth away wrinkles. After your treatment, you may experience common side effects, which can include swelling, redness, pain, bruising, headache, tenderness, lump formation, itching at the injection site, and possible impaired hand function. These are typically mild in severity and normally last less than 7 days in nasolabial folds and less than 14 to 18 days in the lips.
Avoid applying makeup for 12 hours after treatment and minimize strenuous exercise, exposure to extensive sun or heat, and alcoholic beverages within the first 24 hours following treatment.
Who should not use Restylane products?
Do not have Restylane treatments if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or under 22 years of age; have recently used drugs that thin the blood or prevent clotting; or have had previous bad allergies, particularly to microorganisms known as gram-positive bacteria.
Patients who have serious allergies to drugs that have previously required in-hospital treatment, have bleeding disorders, or known allergy to lidocaine should not use Restylane products. Other dermal fillers may be appropriate. Check with the Iteld Plastic Surgery team to determine the best product for you.
What complements Restylane?
Restylane addresses static wrinkles, but these are not the only lines that can form on your face. To smooth out unwanted dynamic wrinkles, the team at Iteld Plastic Surgery uses BOTOX, Daxxify, and other neuromodulators to relax the muscles beneath the skin.
